A Trip to York and Dining at Filmore & Union.. AGAIN!

After hearing how beautiful York was, but never having been able to go ourselves, my boyfriend and I decided to book a night in a studio apartment just a couple of minutes walk from the centre. Mid afternoon Sunday we pulled into the station and instead of getting a taxi, took the picturesque walk into the town which took us past some pretty gardens and over the bridge of the River Ouse. The city is surrounded by walls and its' historic architecture does not disappoint.

After checking into the apartment we decided to go have lunch at Filmore & Union which if you've read my previous post/review will know it's one of my favourite places to eat and offers a huge range of Gluten Free, Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy free options. (Highly recommend). I was disappointed to see that they no longer did the risotto that I loved so much previously. There was still plenty of choice however and I decided on the smoked haddock fish cakes with salad and sweet potato wedges - which were nice but I personally wouldn't order again. (The gluten free bagels or chicken skewers would have been my next choice.)

The following day we decided to go back for breakfast and this time were NOT disappointed. I could have ordered multiple dishes from their Breakfast menu which included an acai bowl, waffles, a cooked breakfast etc. We both went for the "Healthy Pancake" with coconut milk, mixed berries, bananas, yoghurt & maple syrup and oh my goodness it was ginormous and tasted incredible! I also had the coconut milk & cacao hot chocolate that I ordered last time and again, loved.

In the evening we walked back into the town, it's Harry Potter/Diagon Alley-esque cobbled streets, quaint shops, cafes and pubs looked even prettier lit up! We went for drinks at a place called "The House of Trembling Madness" which I'm gutted I didn't managed to take photos of as it was an incredibly quirky, medieval bar/pub in the upstairs and a shop below. I did however manage to take a picture of the streets in the evening and the window display of the Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop.

We finished off our evening at "Ask Italian" which was situated in a stunning building with beautiful chandeliers. (Again, I'm kicking myself for not taking more pictures.) The choice for Gluten free food ranged from pizza to risotto and after a fair while of not being able to make my mind up I eventually chose the carbonara as I'd never been able to find a GF one before. I would 100% recommend it.

The studio apartment we stayed in was only a couple of minutes walk from the town centre, positioned next to the 'Monkgate' and had been recently re-furnished. It was beautifully modern, had a decent sized kitchen, a super comfy bed with a TV mounted on the wall and an abnormally large bathroom with a walk in shower.

If you would like to know more about the places mentioned in this post, or if you have any recommendations of places to visit or eat out then please ask or let me know in the comments!

Thank you for reading! :) xoxo

Disclaimer: The pictures of the apartment were the professional ones from the website as I never took any myself, however all the other pictures on this post as well as the rest of my blog have been taken by me unless stated otherwise.
