Last Autumn myself, my Mum and Grandma went to Skipton for the day and decided to go for a lunch at a place called 'Filmore & Union'. We hadn't eaten there before so I was fairly apprehensive - as I always am when eating out - but after reading the menu I was more than pleasantly surprised!
There wasn't a separate menu which was nice, but instead they had put little icons next to the dishes advising if it was gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and/or dairy free. There was so much to choose from and so many interesting/creative dishes that I'd never seen offered as gluten free before, all made from healthy fresh foods which is always a bonus.
I can honestly say that it was the first time since being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease that I'd been properly spoilt for choice! For a drink I chose the coconut milk and cacao hot chocolate, it was slightly bitter so maybe not to everyone's taste but so creamy & in my opinion - the perfect hot drink for a very cold day in Autumn.
After quite a while pondering over their menu about what to get for my main, I chose the mango and coconut risotto with bacon and chicken which may sound really strange but no word of a lie was the best risotto I've ever had.
The hardest choice of the day however was dessert, I went for the white chocolate blondie with blueberry yogurt sauce which again I had never seen as a gluten free option, it was absolutely delicious!
It is fairly pricey so I couldn't afford to eat there everyday but as a treat it's perfect! You get a great quality, healthy meal and rather large portions - I had both my risotto and brownie boxed up to take home and ate the rest for my lunch the next day!
So wether you have specific dietary requirements or just want find a new place to eat out I can highly recommend Filmore & Union. They also do take outs and are currently located in Leeds, York Petergate and York Station, Beverly, Wetherby, Moortown, Skipton, Ilkley and Harrogate. For anybody who wants to know more, they have their full menu's and further information on their website: www.filmoreandunion.com.
I hope you have found this post both helpful & interesting. I personally always love finding new places to eat out, so if you have any suggestions of other places that offer great gluten free options or even if you've eaten at Filmore & Union yourself and recommend a certain dish then please let me know in the comments.
Thank you for reading! :)
